Imagine farming during the busiest times of the year – it's like trying to do a million things at the same time. You're racing against the clock. Now, what if you could avoid spending hours outside in the hot sun, measuring fields for planting, spraying, or harvesting?

That's where Farm Management System (FMS) from FJDynamics comes in. Think of it as your control center for the farm, but you can use it indoors. Let's see how this tool lets you plan navigation baselines from the comfort of your home, so you can spend more time taking care of your plants.

FMS: Your Farming "Remote Control"

FMS is a super smart app that helps you manage your farm. It's designed specifically for farming. It lets you plan everything from your desk: where to drive your tractor, where to spread fertilizer, and more.

Instead of going out to the field, you can use FMS to draw lines and create maps on your computer. Then, you send those plans directly to your tractors and sprayers. While they're working, you can watch them on your computer screen in real time.

Why Use FMS for Indoor Baseline Creation?

Tired of wasting hours measuring fields under the sun? FMS lets you skip the manual work—design straight or contour lines from your desk in minutes, saving the 1.5 hours per field you'd spend going to the field and adjusting mapping.

With FMS, there is no more sunburn or tired crews, and fewer mistakes like crooked rows or missed spots. You simply need to create precise baselines on your computer or tablet, and let FMS handle the rest—so your team stays efficient, comfortable, and error-free.

Creating Baselines in 5 Easy Steps

You can follow the steps below to quickly create navigation baselines for your farm at home:

Step 1: Set up your farm's profile on FMS
  • Create an organization: Name your farm or cooperative.
  • Add clients: Useful if you manage multiple farms.
  • Create your farm: Enter your farm information, such as location, size, and crop types.

Step 2: Create your baselines
For each field, create the baselines based on the terrain types:
  • AB line: If you want your tractor to drive from one point (A) to another (B) in the quickest way possible. The AB straight line is simply the shortest, straightest path between those two points. It helps the tractor drive directly from A to B to finish what you need it to do. It works best in fields that are mostly square or rectangular.
  • A+ line: This straight line starts at point A and aligns with the tractor's direction, but it doesn't have a fixed end. You can easily stretch or turn it from point A, which works great for large fields or when multiple workers need to coordinate tasks.
  • Curve line: The curve between points A and B flexibly follows the land's natural shape or bends around obstacles like trees or rocks. It works well for farms near roads or areas where crops aren't planted, as the curves adjust to the terrain. This type of path is ideal for fields with irregular shapes or unique layouts that need a more adaptable route.
  • Line group: For tricky land areas, you can mix straight or curved paths to create a custom route for specific jobs. If a field has one straight edge but mostly curved borders, split it into two parts. Use straight lines for the squared-off section and curved lines for the uneven areas. You can save both types of lines in the same group to reuse them later in your system.

Step 3: Manage your task
  • Associate FMS to your navigation devices (e.g., FJD autosteering system) .
  • Send your pre-designed baselines and paths directly to the associated autosteering system.

Step 4: Monitor fieldwork live
Once the job starts, track progress in real time:
  • Check if your tractor drives in the preset baselines, spot gaps or overlaps instantly, and adjust paths remotely.
  • View machine location, speed, and coverage on FMS.

Step 5: Export reports and adjust plans
After the work is done:
  • Generate reports in PDF or Excel to analyze navigation efficiency, fuel use, or chemical application rates.
  • Save baseline templates for future seasons.

Conclusion

FMS isn't just software—it saves lots of time in today's agricultural business. By creating baselines indoors, you gain more farming efficiency and save more time for other important matters.
